With all the technology available for businesses in the auto sector, such as semi-autonomous functionalities and IoT integration with gadgets, it is crucial for developers to leverage what is currently available in the market. Stein points out that the main goals of automakers should be to make their products more accessible and affordable to people. By focusing on these two components, customers will be more inclined to stay in "consumer mode." The speakers made numerous references to the monumental impact of Uber's business model.
Treating a vehicle like a connected medium or product is an effective way of boosting its applications in service-related sectors. For example, in healthcare services, a smart car with driverless capabilities could shuttle patients to and from a treatment facility 24/7 without needing to create schedules for human drivers. In the future, it may also be possible for patients to start communicating with doctors before they reach the clinic or hospital, which could speed up treatment.
The "last-mile" was brought up several times during the discussion. This stage in mobility refers to the final phase of transportation, before an individual reaches his or her destination. Lastly, when it comes to disrupting the retail experience, Casesa explained there will likely be a surge in products and accessories related to smart vehicles.
